Mohamad Rasull

Mohamad Rasull graduated from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Diploma in Education, specialising in Music and Mathematics, and was awarded the Mrs Paul Feng Pei Djen Gold Medal for outstanding achievement in his Music studies. He also holds the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) in Flute Performance.

He maintains a busy performing schedule with several local symphonic bands and a community orchestra, performing on the flute and piccolo, and has performed as a flute soloist with the National Institute of Education Symphonic Band (NIESB), Paradigm Wind Ensemble and the Singapore Wind Symphony (SWS). He has also performed in flute masterclasses given by Ayako Maeda (from the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra), James Galway and Nestor Torres. He is also proficient on the oboe and the clarinet, the latter on which he currently performs with West Winds, Band of the Bukit Batok Community Club.

He has had conducting appearances with NIESB, the Singapore Wind Symphony (SWS), the SWS Youth Winds and Jurongville Secondary School Concert Band. His musical interests also lie in transcribing orchestral literature for the concert band, and as of late, arrangements for band of music from video games or music from popular culture.

CPT Muhamad Yusri

CPT Muhamad Yusri B. Md Ali, enlisted into military service in December 1993. He studied trumpet with Ms Chan Peck Suan and Mr Peck Sin Chuan. He received the Licentiate Diploma for Trumpet Performance from the London College of Music in 1996. He also became the first trumpeter to represent Singapore at the Asian Youth Orchestra Camp and Tour 1996. During the camp, CPT Yusri studied trumpet with Professor Edmund Cord from Indiana University (US) and played under the direction of the late Maestro Sergiu Commissiona.

In 1997, he was selected to attend the UK Bandmaster Course at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall in Twickenham. While he was there, he studied conducting with MAJ (Ret) Roger Swift and Lt. Col Stuwart Watts who was then the Principal Director of Music of the British Army. In the final year examinations & competitions, CPT Yusri won the Principal Director of Music Prize for Conducting and the Graham Wallace Prize for the Best Overseas Student Bandmaster. CPT Yusri graduated with a BA (Mus) awarded by Kingston University. Upon returning to Singapore, CPT Yusri was appointed the Director of Music of SAF Band B.

In July 2005, CPT Yusri became the first Singaporean to reach the finals at the 10th International Conducting Contest at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, The Netherlands where he eventually won the Bronze Baton. In May 2007, CPT Yusri attempted the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) Diploma in Music Direction examination and he passed with a Distinction.

Mr. Ng Kok Hin
Guest Soloist (Euphonium), “SWS Youth Winds In Concert ‘08”

Mr Ng Kok Hin started his music training in Gan Eng Seng School band. It was in the Singapore Polytechnic Concert Band where his passion of wind band performing blossomed, and spurred him to become a member of the former National Theatre Symphonic Band (NTSB).

As one of the founding members of Singapore Wind Symphony since 1992, his attendance and passion for SWS has not faltered even until now. Other than SWS, Mr. Ng also performed with the Bugis Brass Band, directed by Mr. Richard Adams, Head of Music, NAFA.

Mr. Ng obtained his ABRSM Grade 8 in Euphonium Performance in 1987. Having switched from a metal supplies industry dealer to a full time band director since 2003, Mr. Ng also possesses a Specialist Diploma (Merit) in Band Directing from NIE/NTU.
